KUALA LUMPUR:The Government and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) are still failing to control corruption despite various programmes and actions being carried out in the country.

Karangkraf Media Group Chairman, Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub, said only the people's power can solve the issue of corruption holistically.

That, he explained, can be done by changing leaders who are more responsible and with integrity.

"Until today, the issue of corruption is still rampant, the MACC cannot do anything and the government too cannot do anything.

“Only the people's power can resolve this by changing new leaders.

"However, everyone needs to join forces to do a thorough cleansing because corruption is happening everywhere.

"In villages, districts, states and even universities, there are corruption, especially in the issue of appointment of professors such as having a yellow letter and so on," he told Astro AWANI here, on Thursday.

Earlier, the President of Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M), Dr Muhammad Mohan, said Malaysia has slipped to 57th out of 180 countries in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2020 compared to 51st in 2019..

According to him, Malaysia recorded a score of 51 out of 100, compared to 53 the previous year.

In the meantime, Hussamuddin said the act of 'letting go' individuals or political leaders who have a record of corrupt misconduct will be detrimental to stakeholders, especially the people.

"I think if this situation (corruption) is allowed and 'letting go' of politicians (who have a record of corrupt misconduct) roaming the market, this issue will not be resolved, in fact it will even harm the biggest 'stakeholder', namely the people of this country," he said.
