Government mulls implementing EMCO, tighten SOP in Klang Valley - Ismail Sabri

PUTRAJAYA:The government is studying the possibility of implementing the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in the Klang Valley following the spike in COVID-19 positive cases.

Senior Minister (Defence Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said another option was to tighten the standard operating procedures (SOP) in the area in an effort to control the spread of the virus.

However, he said, the decision depends on the recommendations of the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the relevant ministries because such actions require careful evaluation in all aspects.

"If EMCO is implemented, everyone cannot leave the house. Food will be sent to homes, economic activities must also be stopped.

"It is easy for us to control movement but many things need to be considered. Most importantly we have to think of those who depend on daily livelihood.

"We will hold discussions and make a decision in the near future. But for now, we are implementing the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in the Klang Valley," he said in his daily press conference, today.

Previously, there were complaints from several parties when CMCO which was implemented in the Klang Valley starting October 14 was seen to be loose, among them when public parks and gymnasiums were allowed to operate.

Ismail Sabri also informed that the government together with the MOH and the National Security Council (MKN) will discuss and issue an SOP related to the Deepavali celebration soon.
