Government plans to establish more schools for homeless children - Mahdzir
Mahdzir said that among the things which had to be considered to establish more of such schools were their locations as well as target students in a particular area.
The government plans to establish more schools designated for homeless children to ensure that they get proper education, said Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
"We take note of the need of this kind of school for people like them. We will see what the best ways and means are, as well as how they can be helped," he told a press conference after visiting Sekolah Bimbingan Jalinan Kasih (SBJK) in Chow Kit, Thursday.
SBJK is the only school specially catered to homeless children and youths in the country. It has 135 pupils aged between four and 18 with 11 teachers, and practices a 'fun learning' concept.
Mahdzir said that among the things which had to be considered to establish more of such schools were their locations as well as target students in a particular area.
He said any decision to set up this type of schools would require a discussion at the ministerial level.
