The government has urged all organisers of the COVID-19-related donations at both the government and private sector levels to register with the Ministry of Finance (MoF) for tax exemptions.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, said the exemption was to benefit donors for their concern to ease the burden of the people in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"In addition to the official government-established fund, many Malaysians are concerned about those in need (including frontline staff) by donating face masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE).
"As such a lot of funds have been created. The government wishes to thank you for many have been involved in creating such a fund.
"However, the government proposes that each fund be registered because the Ministry of Finance has announced that donors will be given incentives for tax exemptions. So, we hope (for the various organisers) to register with the MoF for tax exemptions to be enjoyed," he said.
To date, the COVID-19 Fund has successfully raised RM22.66 million from corporate and public donations.
Of these, RM 5.86 million was used by the National Welfare Foundation (YKN) for the purchase of daily necessities, especially in the areas of the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).
Meanwhile, RM9.06 million was allocated to the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) and the YKN to enhance distribution capacity.
