The Federal Government, through coordination with the Sarawak government, reiterated its commitment to resolve the problem of accessibility around the Kapit and Belaga.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the enginnering corps of the Royal Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) will continue the Jiwa Murni project, currently being implemented in the two areas.

He explained that a discussion with Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein has been held over the matter.

"I've asked for the expertise of the engineering corps to continue with the Jiwa Murni project. During the discussion, we planned for the logging roads from Sibu to Kapit, around 300 to 400 kilometers long, to be a normal road. However, a soil stabiliser should be done in advance at the logging road," he said.

The government will continue to upgrade the Menjawa-Belaga road, which had started under the National Blue Ocean Strategy.

Zahid firmly said it is to resolve the transportation problems in both areas.

He added that this coordination work is fully supported by the Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Zahid Hamidi admitted it was not easy to realise both projects, especially the Sibu road to Kapit for the logging road goes through mountains, forests and many rivers.

However, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak concerned over this matter, he believes that the project will be implemented.

In fact they are seeking additional provisions to ensure that the road will be built, expanded and upgraded.
