Government urged to look into enforcement agencies' SOP

The government has been urged to look into the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of enforcement agencies in the country as their staff are easily exposed to accidents while at work.

The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) president, Datuk Azih Muda said said this was necessary as the tasks for these staff had become more challenging every day and the probability of getting killed while on duty was high.

"We're really hoping that the SOPs can be looked into as we don't want anymore deaths involving enforcement officers (in future)," he told reporters here today.

Azih was met at the Shah Alam Hospital after paying his last respects to Road Transport Department (RTD) enforcement officer Mohd Ridzuan Md Yusop who was killed after a trailer rammed into him at the Setia Alam toll plaza here about 1pm today.

Mohd Ridzuan, who was conducting a routine operation with three other collegues, had just handed over the driving licence of a haulier driver by the roadside when the incident occurred.

Azih also urged the Social Security Organisation (Socso) to expedite its proposal to the government with regards to insurance coverage for enforcement officers.

"A study by Cuepacs has shown that civil servants also agreed to contribute to Sosco as long as it gives huge benefits, and they see that as a long-term plan for their next-of-kin should there be any untowards incidents," he said. - BERNAMA
