Govt has to bring back PPSMI - Dr Mahathir

The government should bring back the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English (PPSMI), said former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He said knowledge of science and mathematics was now growing and without a command of the English Language, the country would be left behind in these areas.

"If we want knowledge, especially in science and mathematics, we must use English because most of the knowledge is in this language," he told reporters after giving a keynote address on the importance of English in the 21st century, the digital era, at the Wadi Sofea College (WaSC) here today.

Also present was the vice-chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan Prof Datuk Dr Raduan Che Rose and Head of the Wadi Sofea College Datuk Hassan Harun.

Mahathir said there were many concepts on mastering English among the students.

"We will become a race which cannot create anything if we fail to master science and mathematics which are mostly in English," he said.
