The government continues to be committed in ensuring the interests and rights of three target groups, namely senior citizens, the disabled and children.
Women, Family & Community Development Deputy Minister Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun said the commitment was aimed at strengthening existing policies in efforts to mainstream the three groups.
"Senior citizens are guides and sources of inspiration to children who are the future leaders of the nation, while the disabled contribute to the existence of a caring society," she said in a speech to officiate the Universal Senior Citizens, Disabled and Children's Day at the Penang stage here on Tuesday.
The theme for the celebrations in Penang was '2 Generations, 1 Aspiration', which was in line with the national theme.
The ceremony was attended by 500 people, including senior citizens, the disabled and children from various institutions under the Welfare Department.
