The Tanda Putera movie will begin its screening in Penang today, said Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC).
GSC in a statement said this followed clarification by the Penang government that its directive issued earlier was meant as an advisory to cinema operators in that state.
"The movie 'Tanda Putera' falls under Finas' (National Film Development Corporation Malaysia) 'Skim Wajib Tayang' (Compulsory screening scheme) for local movies and it has been approved by the Film Censorship Board of Malaysia with the classification of P13," it said.
On Wednesday, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had issued an order to cinema operators in the state not to screen the movie, which was deemed controversial by the opposition.
Lim, however, was reported to have clarified that it was merely an 'advisory'.
Except Penang, "Tanda Putera" was screened nationwide since Thursday.
