The tax authorities have been asked to probe possible tax evasion by the seller of a RM2.8 million bungalow which was bought by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guang Eng allegedly below market price.
MIC Central Working Committee (CWC) member Datuk Seri S. Vell Paari said if that was the case, then both of them should be charged for cheating the government.
"The tax authorities must immediately investigate this without fear or favour," he said in a statement today.
Vell Paari was alluding to Lim's assertion that the purchase of the property was on a "willing buyer, willing seller" basis, and thus he did not break any law.
He recalled that former Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo also bought a property below market price on the same premise but Dr Mohd Khir was accused of corruption and was subsequently jailed by the court.
Vell Paari said he was pondering why Lim should not be investigated by the authorities and be taken to court over a similar situation.
