The plan by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to table a motion to condemn Datuk Shabudin Yahaya in the state assembly is an act of revenge.
Penang UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman said this followed a motion by Shabudin in parliament last year about purchase of a property below market price by Guan Eng.
"The exposure by the Tasek Gelugor Member of Parliament led to the prosecution of the Penang chief minister on two counts of corruption. The case is awaiting trial.
"Penang UMNO urges Guan Eng to go on leave as chief minister until his corruption trial in court is over," he said in a statement, here today.
Shabudin has been slammed for his remarks on underaged rape victims when debating the Sexual Offences Against Children Bill in parliament recently.
State opposition leader Datuk Jahara Hamid would table a motion calling on Guan Eng to resign as Penang Chief Minister during the state assembly sitting scheduled to start on May 19.
Meanwhile, Guan Eng said Penang UMNO can make any motion in the the next sitting of the state assembly since the state practise democratic principles.
"We have no objection to them filing a motion. It up to the Speaker to decide," he told a press conference at his office, here today. --Bernama
