Guan Eng sees no need to go on leave while MACC probe ongoing

Lim Guan Eng does not see the need to go on leave while the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) conducts an investigation over his controversial RM2.8 million bungalow purchase.

"I do not see why I should go on leave over blatant, false allegations (hurled) against me.

"I leave it to the MACC to conduct an investigation and will press them to complete it speedily so that my name and that of the state government can be cleared.

"I have also stated my full co-operation to the MACC and hope there can be a fair, independent and professional investigation," the Penang Chief Minister said in a statement posted on his Facebook today.

According to media reports, Malaysian Bar president Steven Thiru is among some quarters who suggested Lim take leave, pending an MACC investigation into the bungalow purchase.

On Monday, Penang PAS Youth also urged Lim to go on leave to ensure transparency and a swift investigation process.

Meanwhile, the chief minister said he had always conducted a clean administration of Penang, according to the Competency, Accountability and Transparency (CAT) principles.

He said the state government was justifiably proud of running a clean government free from corruption.
