Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's application to set aside the leave obtained by the Attorney-General to initiate committal proceedings against him in connection to his remarks on his corruption case, will be heard on March 1 next year.
High Court Judge Datuk Hanipah Farikullah set the date in chambers in the presence of senior federal counsel Mazlifah Ayob representing Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali during the case management today.
Mohamed Apandi had filed the ex-parte application for the leave on Aug 18 on grounds, among others, to ensure that any act deemed contempt of court should not be allowed to happen.
The Attorney-General said Lim's remarks that the corruption charges made against him were the results of a political conspiracy and that he would be sent to jail, if read as a whole, implied that the court was also involved in the alleged conspiracy.
The court granted the leave to the Attorney-General on Sept 21.
On June 30, Lim pleaded not guilty in the Penang High Court to charges of corruption on relation to the purchase of a plot of land and bungalow at below market price. -- BERNAMA
