Guideway Crack: MRT names 9 people for spreading rumours

MRT Corp Director of Strategic Communication and Pubic Relations Mahmood Abdul Razak said MRT took seriously the allegations which had gone viral on social media recently.

"It all started when there were posts on social media from people claiming to be experienced engineers creating the impression that they were part of this project.

"The thing that made it even worse was that these people (experienced engineers) who said the guideway was going to collapse at any time created such great concern among the public," he told reporters after lodging the report at the Jalan Travers Police Station here today.

He said the crack was merely a camera trick and was actually a seam line of the netting which was covering the guideway.

Mahmood said the structure of the guideway was sound and there was absolutely no risk of the guideway collapsing.

Mahmood also denied claims that they were trying to avoid the media on the issue.

"A media release was issued on the evening of 23 July 2015 after the picture of the supposed crack became viral," he said, adding that he had named nine people to the police who are believed to be responsible for the issue, including the people who initiated the posting and the people who gave comments that can be dubbed as slander.

On Thursday, the thick line seen in pictures claimed to be a crack on the guideway over the LDP Highway went viral on social media.
