Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) striker Safee Sali today gave his statement to the police to facilitate the investigations into the discovery of a pistol and live bullets in his four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle yesterday.

Safee, 32, arrived at the Johor Bahru Utara Police headquarters at 2.30pm.

Speaking to reporters outside the police headquarters an hour later, the football player confirmed that the Ford Ranger was his and he was also shocked when informed about the discovery of the pistol.

"The matter is being investigated, but the pistol is not mine. Only the vehicle is mine.

"I was informed about the case yesterday afternoon and I was truly shocked. Then, the police called me to come to the police headquarters to give my statement," he said.

Safee said he sent the vehicle to a car accessory shop in the city before leaving the state for the FA Cup final (in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday) and was supposed to retrieve it today.

He said he did not know the suspect as it was the first time he had sent the vehicle to the shop as a client.

The footballer said he had used the Ford Ranger for several years.

Yesterday, police found a pistol with 30 live bullets in the vehicle, which was driven by the owner of the car accessory shop, after it was stopped and inspected at a road block at the northbound in Kempas exit of the PLUS Expressway.

The 34-year-old suspect had been remanded for five days to facilitate investigations.
