There have been no new deaths involving buffaloes and cows in Terengganu from haemorrhagic septicaemia since Monday, said Terengganu Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) director, Dr Mohd Termizi Ghazali.
He said the disease had hit three districts in Terengganu since the end of May, with 354 deaths of reared animals, comprising 298 cows and 56 buffaloes.
He added that the situation was improving with the last deaths recorded in Kuala Nerus on June 11, Kuala Terengganu (June 21) and Marang (July 2).
"However, we are continuing with the vaccination of these reared animals in the three districts to ensure the disease is under control and to eradicate it completely as soon as possible," he told reporters at an Aidilfitri gathering organised by the Terengganu DVS, here, Thursday.
According to the department's records, the rearers had suffered losses of about RM1.8 million, with an average loss of RM5,000 for each animal which died.
Dr Mohd Termizi said 18 animal rearers had been affected by the epidemic, comprising nine in Marang, eight in Kuala Terengganu and one in Kuala Nerus.
