KUALA LUMPUR: It was a proud day for Rozliana Mohd Ridwan who was named as one of Asia Rugby's Unstoppable Ambassadors.
The 30-year-old National 7s Women's rugby team assistant coach was selected among an initial submission list of 84 nominees from 32 countries.
Rozliana was crowned as an Asia Rugby Unstoppable Top 32 ambassador, will represent the sport's women's month campaign namely the Asia Rugby Unstoppable Campaign.
The unstoppable campaign honours and recognises the importance of women in the sport and how they have contributed to influencing the development of rugby across the region.
"I am definitely honoured and glad...All my sacrifice and hard work over these past four years in this sports have paid off,
" Through this recognition, I hope more Malaysian women will be inspired and to create the desire to be unstoppable and break their boundaries,
"There is no doubt that rugby is an intimidating sport, but with proper training on the appropriate techniques and emphasis on safety, you will know that it is like any other sports, " she said.
World Rugby's women development and Asia Rugby's executive committee member Ada Milby congratulated Rozliana and expressed her faith and confidence in inspiring women all across the sport.
"We were inspired by Rozliana's story and are indeed glad that she was among those selected to represent women in rugby in Asia.
"Rozliana will in due time, will be interviewed in-depth for the unstoppable campaign to share her story with the masses," she told Bernama.
Rozliana was part of the National 7's Women Rugby team who attained the country's first ever bronze medal for women's rugby at the 29th Kuala Lumpur SEA Games in 2017.
In 2018, she was made the national women's team captain after which it won the Asia Rugby Women's Sevens Trophy (ARWST) in Brunei which also elevated Malaysia to the 8th rank in Asia.
