ARAU: The existence of harumanis mangoes from other states in the market provides more choices to mango lovers, said Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man.

He said the quality of Perlis' harumanis was special and it has a market of its own.

Azlan said based on feedback from mango lovers, Perlis harumanis was different from those that were grown in other states.

"To me, Harumanis mangoes from Perlis differ in its smell. Some have tried harumanis mangoes from other states such as Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Johor but they are different from those grown in Perlis," he said at his Arau parliamentary Aidilfitri Open House last night.

Yesterday, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the state was targetting to produce 600 tonnes of harumanis mangoes per season by 2025, to meet the high demand in the country.

Azlan said the Perlis government registered "Harumanis Perlis" as a trademark for Perlis-grown harumanis mangoes which prohibited other states from using the name to market their harumanis mangoes.
