'Have I been barred from leaving the country because of 1MDB?' - Khairuddin

Former Batu Kawan UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Khairuddin is furious that he has been barred and blacklisted by the Malaysian Immigration Department following ‘orders from the Bukit Aman police’.
Through his Facebook page, Khairuddin said he had to forgo his trip to New York and London following the ban.
“I was supposed to leave for New York and London at 10.30am today (Friday) but have been barred, stopped and blacklisted by the Immigration Department on orders of the Royal Malaysian Police.
“The Immigration Department and the Royal Malaysian Police had not notified me about this at all,” said Khairuddin.
He claimed that he had gone to the Immigration Department headquarters at 8am to seek clarification from the passports security division but was informed by the Immigration officer that it was done on the orders of the Bukit Aman police headquarters.
Apart from that, his lawyer Matthias Chang was also barred from leaving the country without any concrete reason.
Khairuddin, who was clearly unhappy as the only reason used by the authorities to explain the ban was ‘special reasons’ also had demanded for an explanation from the police.
He claimed that the authorities have misused their power to detain him from leaving the country without any solid reason.
“Is it because they are afraid of my actions to continue fighting for the truth to investigate the 1MDB financial scandal overseas?” asked Khairuddin on his Facebook page, Friday.
Khairuddin also said he would be questioned by police in connection with the investigation for submitting evidence relating to the 1MDB issue to the Attorney General of Switzerland.
The Malaysian Insider news portal reported that government officials had responded prior to this, stating that Khairuddin’s statements were 'false' and 'politically motivated'.
