Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) has canceled all outdoor activities for its staff and students due to the current haze situation.
Assistant Registrar of Public Relations and Media Unit at UTeM, Zulfatria Abdullah said the move was made after taking into consideration the health risks faced by the students and staff.
"We have stopped all outdoor co-curricular for students and team building training courses for our staff for the sake of health.
"The teaching and learning sessions go on as usual to meet the set schedule," he told Bernama here today.
He said the decision to postpone the lectures was dependent upon the severity of the haze, the Air Pollution Index (API) and its impact on the health of students.
Zulfatria said the UTeM management was also closely monitoring the haze situation which affected the college community.
"The haze conditions change from day to day, we always take into account the level of pollution from the haze. So we wait for the results from the management and the Ministry of Higher Education, on whether there is a need to stop or delay the course lectures," he said.
He said UTeM had also advised its students and staff to comply with the
precautionary measures issued by the relevant authorities such as the Department
of Environment, to ensure they did not fall sick due to the haze.
According to the Department of Environment, as of 9am, as many as 18 areas
recorded unhealthy air quality around the country, with the highest API recorded
in Bukit Rambai, here (150), followed by Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan (142).
