Health Ministry confirms no cannabis-laced cosmetics sold at KLIA, Klia2

The health ministry has denied cannabis (ganja)-laced cosmetics are being sold at cosmetics stores in the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2.

Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said its pharmaceutical enforcement division (BPF) had inspected 22 premises selling cosmetics and found that none sold cannabis-laced cosmetic products.

"The cyber pharmaceutical section, BPF and the ministry monitor websites and the social media to detect those dealing in such cosmetic products without notification, as well as unregistered medicines online.

"Last year, several websites and Facebook sites selling cosmetics containing cannabis were detected and reported to the police narcotics division," he said in a statement here Saturday.

To date, the BPF had not received any report on seizure of cannabis in cosmetics, he added.

Noor Hisham was commenting on Senator Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah's statement at the Dewan Negara on May 3, that cosmetic products such as lipstick, lotion and lip gloss containing cannabis were sold at the airport and online.

He stressed that cosmetic products in Malaysia were controlled in terms of import, manufacturing, sales, supply and possession under the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984.

Consumers should report to the National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau (BPFK) if they find any suspicious cosmetic products in the market or experience allergic reaction after using cosmetic products, via e-mail to [email protected] or contact 03-78838496/5532.
