The Health Ministry plans to place a nurse at every school to raise awareness on healthcare among students, said its Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
The matter is being discussed with the Education Ministry and would be started at primary schools, he said.
"A nurse in each school could help educate students on personal hygiene, healthcare issues and healthy eating habits. Students could also approach the nurses directly on health matters," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after launching the Teaching Straight 'A's Subject in Public Exams for Bentong parliamentary constituency, at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Bentong, here today.
Liow, who is Bentong member of Parliament, said the ministry was also planning to introduce a health subject on physical and mental health education in schools.
"Students are increasingly subjected to stress nowadays, so they must be equipped with the knowledge to overcome it," he said.
Among the causes of stress among students was pressure from parents to excel in every subject even though it was beyond their ability to do so, he added.
