The people in Perlis were shocked today when strong winds followed by heavy storm occurred at about 2.30pm this afternoon, resulting in trees fallen and notice boards scattered around the state.
Also affected were some 20 tents put up in conjunction with the Perlis Entrepreneur Carnival, organised by the State Government, scheduled to commence from tomorrow until May 29.
According to Astro Awani’s observation, most of the tents of various sizes installed in the compound of Tunku Syed Putra Stadium had collapsed, while some were also blown a few meters away by the wind.
For the participants of the carnival, they said they will continue with the programme despite losing thousands of ringgit.
Many of those met said it was the first time they experienced such a scary incident as the strong wind occurred for several minutes.
The powerful storm also caused the Kuala Perlis jetty sea to be flooded after it was devastated by strong waves up to the shore. Meanwhile, according to Perlis Civil Defence Department Director, Lt. Col Ishak Mohd Radzi, they received no less than 40 reports about the storm in the state today. There were also many fallen trees around Santan, Jejawi, Bohor Mali, Arau, Kampung Bakong, Kok Kelang, Kangar and Pauh. However , no casualties were reported so far.
