A high-tech military radar equipment consignment worth millions of ringgit has reportedly gone missing from the Port of Tanjung Pelepas in Johor.
According to a report in The Star Online, which quoted sources, said the equipment which was supposed to be shipped to Netherlands, was detained by Customs officials after it arrived from Australia last month because it did not have the necessary permits.
However, audit checks conducted revealed that the equipment could not be located at the port.
It was also reported that the authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the equipment could have been shipped off to the Netherlands discreetly to avoid other problems.
Customs Department and the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) are currently investigating the incident.
The sources told The Star Online that such sensitive equipment requires a permit under the Strategic Trade Act 2010 and the penalties are heavy as fines can be as high as RM10 million and a death penalty if convicted.
