KUALA LUMPUR: The high tide phenomenon that hit the Selangor coastline is under control today with only minor seawater overflow reported in a few areas, said Selangor Disaster Management Unit (UPBN) chief Muhammad Izzat Haziq Mohd Nazir.
He said that earlier today there were reports that the federal road near the Mustafa Supermarket and Lorong Yunus Sungai Sembilan in Kuala Selangor experienced minor flooding at around 5.44 am and the floodwaters started to recede at 7 am.
Other areas in this district which experienced minor flooding when the seawater spilling past the bunds were Bagan Pasir Tanjung Karang, Sungai Kajang fishermen jetty, Jalan Sungai Dungun, Bagan Sungai Kajang, Kampung Tok Adam, Ikan Bakar Pantai Jeram, Bagan Pasir Penambang and Bagan Sungai Janggut, he said in a statement today.
He added that the bund in Kampung Sungai Janggut, Kuala Selangor had been repaired by the Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) to face the anticipated high tide phenomenon.
Several areas in the Klang district were also slightly flooded during the same period including Kampung Sementa fishermen jetty, Jalan Banting Pandamaran, Sungai Udang fishermen jetty in Kampung Baru Telok Gong, Kampung Tradisi, Kampung Pendamar and Kampung Perajurit Telok Gong, he said.
“Also flooded were Taman Telok Gedong Indah and Taman Selat Damai Pandamaran, both in Port Klang, Sungai Udang jetty and Kampung Sungai Kembung Pulau Indah, However, the situation has improved.
“Thus far, there is only small overflow of seawater (near the beach) and there are no cases involving residential areas in all areas around Klang, Kuala Selangor, Sabak Bernam, Kuala Langat and Sepang reported,” he said.
The high tide phenomenon is expected to hit the coastal areas until tomorrow.
