Hishammuddin, Mukhriz continue close fight for VP post
The final spot in the UMNO vice-president will be won by either Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein or Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir.
Both the former prime minister’s sons went through a close fight as at 6.30pm with Hishammuddin leading with 56 votes compared to Mukhriz's 46.
Political analysts however have predicted that Hishammuddin will win.
Unofficial results showed that Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi has so far received 104 votes while Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal garnered 94.
Another two candidates, Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam and Tan Sri Isa Samad are trailing with six votes each.
All candidates need at least 96 votes from divisions to be declared winners.
Pagoh UMNO division, led by party deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, voted to retain Zahid, Shafie and Hishammuddin as vice-presidents.
