HINDRAF chairman P. Waythamoorthy has been branded as “insolent” for calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein (pix) said that the HINDRAF leader has gone overboard for making such demands on the basis that Najib had allegedly failed in fulfilling his demands.
Hishammuddin alleged that Waythamoorthy's actions to blame the government, especially the prime minister, was simply a political game “to hide his selfish attitude”.
In a press statement issued Wednesday, Hishammuddin also criticised Waythamoorthy, when he was a deputy minister, for allegedly asking for all government allocations for the Indian community to be parked under his control.
“(That action) reflects his greedy and insincere attitude in fighting for the welfare of the Indians holistically, as he had proclaimed before this,” said Hishammuddin.
Hishamuddin remined Waythamoorthy that there were many community leaders and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that have fought for the welfare of the estimated two million Indians in the country.
“I myself as the Sembrong MP have helped the Indians in my area many times all these while,” he said.
Hishammuddin said that as a cabinet minister and UMNO vice president he is unable to accept Waythamoorthy’s actions to now attack Najib.
“His decision to resign after only nine months in the administration is an act of betrayal that clearly goes against the spirit of comradeship within the government.”
Hishamuddin also alleged that Waythamoorthy had never met him or discussed matter relating to the Indians.
“It is clear that Waythamoorthy is still very much under the influence of the political style of Hindraf which does things by way of demands and pressure. He has to understand that the BN government is always democratic and tolerant without neglecting any of the races in this country,” he said.
Hishammuddin quoted one example where the government has allocated RM540 million to develop the infrastructures of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil since 2009.
“This includes the RM100 million allocation every year for 2012 and 2013. The government has also allocated RM20 million to 13 Tamil schools for developing and maintaining the schools in 2013.”
Early this month, Waythamoorthy had resigned all his government posts, including as a deputy minister and a senator.
He had claimed that Najib had failed to fulfill the promises he made in the Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) both parties signed.
