PUTRAJAYA: The humanitarian mission of the Malaysia UMNO Welfare Bureau (BKUM), Humanitarian Mission 4 Palestine (HM4P), channelled food supply and other daily essentials to 1,000 Palestinian families at four refugee camps in Jordan on Monday.
BKUM chairman, Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, who led the mission, said the supply given would be sufficient for a month for each family in the camps at Al-Baqa'a, Al-Rusaifah, Hitthin and Wahadad.
He said in complying with the standard operating procedure (SOP), the distribution could only be done at the Al-Baqa'a Camp while the aid to the rest of the camps would be channelled via the Lajnah Zakat Jordan.
"It is hoped that the contributions can lighten the burden of the Palestinian refugees including single mothers and the elderly who are facing great difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic," he said in a statement which was shared through WhatsApp today.
The Al-Baqa'a Camp is among the (more) congested refugee camps with over 200,000 Palestinian refugees.
The two-week HM4P from June 19 is aimed at demonstrating the solidarity of the people of Malaysia with the Palestinians.
It is also to channel humanitarian aid in the form of money, food supply and medicines to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Baitulmaqdis, West Bank and the impacted Palestinians in Gaza who were attacked by the Israeli army last month.
The Israeli regime's attack on the Gaza region which ended in a ceasefire on May 21, saw the destruction of property and killing of over 250 Palestinians including 66 children.
Abdul Azeez, who is also the Baling Member of Parliament, has been leading the five HM4P members in Jordan since last Saturday before going to Cairo, Egypt today to join other members of the HM4P in Egypt.
The team is expected to enter the Gaza region this week, subject to approval by the Egyptian authorities.
Egypt was reported to be facilitating the trip to Gaza by the Malaysian non-governmental organisation via the Rafah border following a discussion between Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Egyptian president Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
A similar effort has also been made by Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein with his Egyptian counterpart.
