Home Ministry clarifies job loss of 247 security personnel
The decision to revoke the licence of a security firm in Perak recently was to serve as a lesson and warning to other firms, said Home Ministry senior deputy secretary-general Datuk Alwi Ibrahim.
"This action shows the Home Ministry will not compromise on any security firm that fails to comply with the stipulated rules and guidelines," he said in a statement.
The statement came after 247 security personnel lost their jobs following the revocation of their employer’s license as reported by a local daily.
Alwi said there have been several unwanted incidents of late which happened after the security firms failed to abide by rules and regulations.
"It is the security firms' responsibility to abide by rules outlined by the Home Ministry to avoid any unwanted incidents from happening," he added.
He said such incidents could bring a negative image to the ministry in terms of its supervision and enforcement in this country.
Alwi also reminded security companies to not solely focus on profit-making to the extent of forgetting their company objectives.
Previously, it was reported that 247 security personnel had been suspended from their jobs following the revocation of their employer's license effective Nov 1.
The Home Ministry is the ministry in charge of issuing the Private Agency License to all security firms.
