The incident in which a teenager was allegedly beaten to death by fellow inmates happened at Asrama Akhlak in Pokok Sena, Kedah and not at Pokok Sena Rehabilitation Centre as reported.
Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim said Asrama Akhlak and Pokok Sena Rehabilitation Centre were two different institutions.
"Asrama Akhlak is under the administration of the Social Welfare Department while the rehabilitation centre is under the responsibility of Prisons Department, Home Ministry," he said in a statement here today.
On Friday, Mohamad Shukri Kassim, 17, was found dead by the warden after failing to show up for morning prayers.
A newspaper reported that the victim who entered the centre on Nov 11, was under detention for a house break-in case in Langkawi.
Post-mortem findings revealed that the teenager suffered head and abdomen injuries caused by a blunt object.
Ten inmates aged between 14 and 17, have been detained under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. - BERNAMA
