Home Ministry to take legal action on Clare Brown if there is a 'prima facie'

The Home Ministry will officially work together with the British government through Wisma Putra if there is a prima facie case for legal action against Sarawak Report founder, Clare Rewcastle-Brown.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in a statement on Saturday said, this will depend on the results of investigations carried out by the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP).

“If there are criminal elements committed by Clare, there is already bilateral exchange of intelligence between Malaysia and Britain.

“Although Malaysia celebrates freedom of expression, it will not tolerate information that has been tampered with or fabricated.

“Even more so news published online by Clare with malicious intentions,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid said, cooperation between RMP and Scotland Yard has already been established and this will facilitate any further action including extradition orders if required.

Clare is a British citizen and is the editor and founder of Sarawak Report and Radio Free Sarawak.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had previously blocked access to The Sarawak Report (http://www.sarawakreport.org) website citing national security.

In a statement posted in its Facebook page, the MCMC said the prohibition was necessary as the portal had frequently published unverified reports.
