Honda temporarily halts production due to warehouse fire

Honda Malaysia announced today that they have experienced a fire incident at their supplier’s warehouse in Malacca. The warehouse is run by Nistrans Malaysia, the company provides logistics and warehouse management services to Honda Malaysia. The warehouse in question stores all of Honda’s CKD parts.

90 per cent of the 130,000 square feet warehouse was damaged and an estimated 2500 units of Honda CKD parts were affected by the fire. It had taken the fire department five hours to put out the fire but fortunately no casualties were reported, neither were there any injuries.

Due to the fire, Honda was forced to halt production of for their No.1 Line for four days while No.2 Line was halted for six entire days. Don’t worry, production has since resumed on both lines but Honda Malaysia will monitor the parts supply situation and analyse its impact on the production schedule carefully.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Honda Malaysia Mr. Yoichiro Ueno said, “We are very sorry to hear about the fire and the loss experienced by our supplier. We are currently working closely with Nistrans to assist in any way possible. Rest assured that we at Honda are working hard and doing all that we can to minimise the impact of this unforeseen circumstance towards our customers.”

Honda Malaysia will continue its effort in confirming the overall impact of the fire incident on its production and carefully examine the situation while investigations are still underway at the warehouse.
