A babysitter was fined RM10,000, in default four months’ jail, by the Sessions Court here today for slapping a four-month-old girl causing the baby to have bruises on the face and buttock.
Judge Mahyon Talib meted out the fine on housewife Nurul Aslamiah Kamarudin, 33, after the woman pleaded guilty to the charge.
She was charged with abusing the child by slapping the girl on the face, thigh and buttock at an apartment at Precinct 14, Putrajaya, at 5.40 pm on Sept 18 last year.
The charge was framed under Section 3 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001, which provides a maximum fine of RM50,000, or imprisonment for up to 20 years, or both, if found guilty.
In mitigation, Nurul Aslamiah, unrepresented, said she has an eight-year-old child and her husband is a general worker.
