A housewife was sentenced to three months imprisonment by the Magistrate's Court here today for making a false report.
Nurfauzilah Ariffin, 39, who was also a part time online trader pleaded guilty to committing the offence at the quarters of the Perak Tengah police headquarters (IPD) at 7.30pm on May 3.
Magistrate Mohd Fitri Sadaruddin ordered her sentence to run from her arrest on May 9.
According to the facts of the case, the mother of six sent a voicemail for help through Whatsapp and a written message in Indonesian through her Messenger Facebook account to her husband, saying she was being confined by someone.
Her message prompted her husband to lodge a police report at the same IPD the following day.
But investigations revealed, the woman had gone to Shah Alam, Selangor and obtained a job at a nursery.
She made up the story to 'hide temporarily' from some unsettled debts.
When the case became viral in Facebook, she was arrested at the nursery based on a public tip-off on May 9.
The charge under Section 182 of the Penal Code carries a maximum six months imprisonment and a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, on conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Qistini Qamarul Abrar appeared for the prosecution while Nurfauzilah was represented by counsel Hennie Soraya Hanafi from the National Legal Aid Foundation.
