Housewife loses RM7,000 to TikTok scammer

Melaka CID chief ACP Mohd Sukri Kaman said in the incident at 11 am last Saturday, the suspect visited the victim at her house in Taman Desa Air Merbau, Jasin to bring the woman to buy basic items at a nearby supermarket.

"However, the suspect managed to trick the victim by entering her house and stealing the jewellery before fleeing. The woman then lodged a police report on the same day," he said in a statement here today.

In the meantime, police advised the public to be more careful and seek assistance from the right channel such as government agencies or related non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and not to provide personal details through media social platforms to unknown individuals.

Mohd Sukri said this was because there is a group of individuals who are taking advantage of the COVID-19 situation in the country by using the modus operandi to contact or visit victims' houses on the pretext of assisting them but only to steal or rob.

"Melaka police view the impersonation cases seriously and would not hesitate to take stern actions against those who commit such crimes," he added.

In a separate statement, police are tracking down the individuals who are responsible for hanging an artificial statue with the words 'Kerajaan pembunuh' (murderer government) at the Ayer Keroh Melaka Trade Centre (MITC) junction here this morning.

Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Afzanizar Ahmad said the statue attired in a white shirt, blue pants and a straw hat, was brought down by police after they were alerted of the incident at 7.40 am.
