HSA fire: Forensic investigation continues

Forensic investigations by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JPBM) into the Sultanah Aminah Hospital fire tragedy continued this morning.

State JBPM operations assistant director, Mohd Rizal Buang said eight of his personnel have been tasked with finding evidence to determine the cause of yesterday’s fire, believed to have started in one of the Intensive Care Unit’s (ICU) treatment room.

He said evidence gathered would be taken to the laboratory for forensic studies.

"All materials deemed as evidence will be collected and brought to the laboratory to be analysed before we can issue a full report on the incident," he said.

Meanwhile, JPBM deputy director-general (Operations) Datuk Soiman Jahid said various aspects of the incident would be examined.

This includes the possibility of a short circuit or damages in medical electronic devices and apparatus, he said.

"I urge the public to not speculate at this point in time and we will issue the full report soonest," Soiman told Astro AWANI.

According to JBPM's standard operating procedure, a full report is expected to be completed with 14 days after an incident.

However, this would also depend on various factors, including the extensiveness of the fire as well as the areas affected.
