BFM radio station (89.9FM) presenter Aisyah Tajuddin today apologised for the “Projek Dialog BFMKupas” video clip that caused a public uproar after it was uploaded on a video platform, last week.
Asiyah explained that the objective of the video was to question the priorities set by the PAS-led Kelantan state and not in any way meant as an insult to Islam.
“The video was about politics, the words and actions of politicians it was certainly not about the religion. I wish to take this opportunity to apologise for both my tone and demeanor in the video.
“It was never my intention to mock. It was never my intention to insult. I realise that many took offence.
“For that, I am truly sorry. I would never, under any circumstance, insult or condemn any religion, let alone my own,” said Aisyah in a statement, today.
However, she said that the coverage of this incident has steered far its true intentions, which was always to spur the discourse surrounding the socio-economic conditions of Kelantan folks.
“Since the video was published, numerous death and rape threats have been made directly against me, my family, my colleagues and my friends. It has been incredibly upsetting.
“Feeling this vulnerable about my safety and security is an uncomfortable experience and one that is out of character of the Malaysia I know.
“There has also been a tremendous outpouring of love and support from both friends and strangers alike. For this, I'm truly grateful,” she said.
In the video titled "Hudud Isi Periuk Nasi" (Hudud Fills Rice Bowls), the script Aisyah dictated had allegedly criticised the recently-concluded Kelantan State Legislative Assembly for passing amendments to the hudud bill.
BFM has taken down the video following a public uproar.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police are currently investigating the video.
