A human leg bone was found in Sungai Maliau Penangah on Friday.
Kinabatangan police chief Supt A. Sahak Rahmat said the bone was found by villagers, and personnel from the Tongod police station who went to the site at 12.30pm on the day.
It was then sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan for further investigation, he said in a statement today.
He did not rule out the possibility of the bone belonging to a victim who went missing during a mudslide incident which destroyed three workers'' quarters at an oil palm plantation on April 1.
The incident resulted in eight residents missing after being swept away by the mudslide, while three others survived.
Seven of the victims'' bodies were found in a search and rescue operation carried out until April 12. - BERNAMA
