Husband fined for beating up wife

A salesman was fined RM1,800 by the Magistrate's Court here today after he pleaded guilty to a charge of hurting his wife yesterday.

Magistrate Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin also ordered Hazwan Sapi-ee 24, to serve two months jail sentence should he fail to pay the fine.

Hazwan is alleged to have assaulted Siti Norizzah Ahmad, 24, by using his hands and feet in Taman Aman Putra, Jinjang Utara, Sentul at 8pm.

The water filter salesman was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries up to one year's jail sentence or fine up to RM2,000, or both.

Earlier, the court was told the victim was dragged into a room by her husband and assaulted.

As a result, she suffered cuts and bruises in the face and lips and a bleeding nose.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Tan Siew Ping prosecuted while Hazwan was represented by counsel Khairul Amin Abdullah.
