KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad reiterated he is not against PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to lead the country as Prime Minister.
According to the former Prime Minister, he did have the intention to hand over the post to Anwar at one time.
"No ... I did not oppose him being the Prime Minister.
“However, he (Anwar) wanted me to resign before I could finish my task.
"I told him I would resign. Actually, I told him to give me six months because I have a job to do," he said in an interview on the ‘Breakfast Grille BFM’ radio program on Friday.
However, from another aspect, Dr Mahathir who is also the Member of Parliament for Langkawi said, Anwar can only be the Prime Minister if he gets the support of the majority from the members of Parliament.
"Yes, he will be the Prime Minister but there is one thing that needs to be acknowledged, he must get the support of the majority.
"I cannot determine that. I cannot say ‘you can be the Prime Minister’. You must get the support of the majority of MPs,” he said.
For the record, Dr Mahathir revealed last June that the proposal to nominate the President of Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan), Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal as the Prime Minister was also agreed by several other senior leaders of Pakatan Harapan.
