KUALA LUMPUR:Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he had been granted an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum at Istana Negara, on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

In a media statement today, Anwar, who is also President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) expressed gratitude with the Agong's consent.

“I would like to express my gratitude to His Majesty for granting me an audience to meet on Tuesday, 13 October 2020.

“InshaAllah. At the meeting, I will present documentation on the strong and convincing majority of MPs (Members of Parliament) as I mentioned earlier," he said in the statement.

Anwar said he hoped Malaysians would continue to be calm and pray from their homes or workplaces as well as respect the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) procedures.

In an emergency press conference on September 23, Anwar claimed that he had a strong majority to form a new government in the near future.

Anwar asserted that he had obtained consent to have an audience with Al-Sultan Abdullah on Tuesday (Sept 22) at 11 am but had to be postponed following His Majesty’s treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN).

Hours after Anwar's announcement, UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in a statement said he received information that there were many UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs expressing support for Anwar to form a new government.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the BN chairman, said that UMNO and BN were not component parties of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) but the support for the PN government was only support from the party's MPs.

However, the UMNO MPs said to be involved in supporting Anwar denied the matter.
