Azizul Raheem Awalludin, the Tourism Malaysia official in Sweden, who was jailed in that country for beating his children, has been released from prison on Wednesday.

"I just can't wait to see my father and have often wondered what I'll do when I do meet him," said Aishah who is the eldest daughter of Azizul.

She said she was grateful and happy to learn that her father had been released from prison.

"When I see him I feel like hugging him and saying 'We missed you very much'," she told reporters at Kampung Wakaf Tok Wali, Melor, on Wednesday.

Azizul, was jailed for hitting all four of his children since September 2013, and has been serving a sentence of three months in Sweden from March 28.

The Solna District Court in Stockholm, Sweden imposed a jail sentence of 10 months on Azizul and 14 months on his wife, Shalwati Norshal for the offence.

However, the court reduced the jail sentence when each of them was required to serve only one-third of their sentences.

Shalwati, a teacher who is on no-pay leave, will only be released in three months' time and the couple's four children, Aishah, 14, Ammar, 12, Adam, 11 and Ariff, 7, who were initially placed under the care of non-Muslims foster parents following the case, were handed over to the Malaysian Embassy in Stockholm on Jan 30.

The couple's children returned to Malaysia on Jan 31 and were placed under the care of their aunty and uncle in Kelantan.

Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin, on Wednesday said Azizul is expected to return to Malaysia on July 15.

Meanwhile, Shalwati's sister, Shaleena Norshal, 43, said she and the couple's children will leave for Kuala Lumpur on Monday to welcome Azizul.

"I got the news that the embassy staff would pick him (Azizul) up after he is released from prison at 5pm (Malaysian time) today," she said.
