'I panicked when I saw trees, soil on the road'

The 50-year-old was driving home from Hulu Langat after work when she witnessed a landslide had occurred in the area close to the once famous Ampang Lookout Point.

"It was about 5.30pm and it was raining heavily. I was driving alone and I was shocked to see the road covered with mud, rocks and trees.

"I manage to park my car by the roadside and immediately called the Fire and Rescue Department to inform them about the incident. My friends who were also travelling along the same stretch decide to get down from their car and we started alerting oncoming cars about the landslide."

"We were worried that an accident might happen if we didn't warn the other motorists as some of them were driving really fast. The rescue department arrived shortly but we only left the area around 7.30pm."

Norizan also said she was thankful that no untoward incident happened.

The Ampang Lookout Point, once a hit among locals and tourists, was shut down by the Kajang Municipal Council in January.

It had been reported that the council discovered the operators of the Lookout Point were operating without a Certificate of Fitness (CF). The council eventually ordered for the eatery to be shut down due to the serious soil erosion activities in the area.

Meanwhile, officers from the Hulu Langat Works Department and Kajang Municipal Council visited the site at 9am today.

A spokesman from the Works Department said they are still waiting for a forensics report before they can decide whether to remove debris from the location.

“The report is important as we will then know whether it is safe to remove the debris," the spokesman added.
