Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has assured that he will ensure that all promises made to the people of Sarawak will be fulfilled, including providing additional allocations if needed.
"Elected representatives please remember... when you make a promise, it must be fulfilled. If delayed, I will come after you because we are a government that cares for the people," he said at a "Leaders with the People" session at the Long Bemang longhouse here today.
Also present were Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Sarawak Social Development Minister Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom, Baram Member of Parliament Anyi Ngau and Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau.
Ahmad Zahid, who is on a two-day working to the Miri Division in Sarawak, also reminded the people in the state not to be fooled by the opposition's empty promises.
He said instead, the close relations between the federal government and the state government which had existed all long must be maintained so that all development plans could be executed more easily.
"Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem is working hard for the people of Sarawak. He has a special relationship with the prime minister. So much so, in Budget 2016, Sarawak received an allocation of RM1.54 billion to upgrade basic infrastructure," he said.
He stressed that Sarawak deserved the huge allocation.
The Long Bemang longhouse has existed since 1947. It is occupied by members of Sarawak's Kayan community.
At the event, Ahmad Zahid also announced a RM2.5 million allocation to upgrade the community's church and the jetty there.
In conjunction with the visit, the community also conferred Ahmad Zahid the Kayan title of 'Ngau Deng' .
