HULU TERENGGANU: Despite being bitter to swallow, however, Mala (not her real name) can do nothing other than hand it over to the authorities to determine her daughter's future.
Mala, who is also the mother of the suspect in the murder of teenager Siti Nur Surya Ismail, 19, at her house in Kampung Lubuk Batu, Hulu Terengganu, last Sunday, has run out of words to describe the sadness that is nestled in her soul.
Like other mothers, Mala also does not want to see the end of her child in such a way, however, she also agrees not to be able to fight destiny.
During Astro AWANI's visit to her residence today, her facial expression concealed a thousand feelings that are difficult to translate into words.
Scorn, sarcasm and words that are not pleasant to hear has begun to shower Mala and her family.
Admitting it was not easy to accept such pressure, she said serenity will be present every time you lament to the Almighty.
In the current situation, what Mala can do was to accept it with open arms as soon as her beloved daughter was detained by the authorities to assist in the investigation.
Regardless, Mala said, she has surrendered herself to God since the first day her daughter was detained and for her, let the authorities and justice determine the fate of her daughter.
For the unfortunate mother, there was no obligation to defend against every offence by anyone, but, as a mother’s instinct, prayers for her child have been relentless.
Deep in the corner of her heart, Mala admits, her eldest daughter is the place she has been relying on and complaining about if there was anything to share.
"All this time she listened to me because I live in poverty and never complained. If were to complain, it is only to her only about the hardships of life that we go through as I know that I am only a cleaner.
"She just said it's okay ma, Kakak (call for suspect) will defend our fate later if Kakak can get a job. She wants to be a teacher. She is a good girl ... can share problems with. But now I hand it over to the police, but I still pray," said Mala expressing her feelings in an interview with Astro AWANI.
Mala, who is also a mother of two children, said to the best of her knowledge, the late Surya was a good friend of her daughter, in fact they loved each other very much.
In a conversation laden with grief and regret over the incident, Mala said it was difficult for her to imagine what had happened to the fate of the late Siti Nur Surya.
And, deep in the corner of her heart, Mala indeed kept the desire on the first day of the incident to visit the family of the deceased whom she acknowledged as a family of good character.
In fact, Siti Nur Surya's personality, said Mala, was also very pleasing to her because she is a good child and obedient to her parents and respects the elderly.
“Of course, I really want to go and see the family of the late Surya. They are good people. It is my responsibility and obligation to seek forgiveness for everything that happened.
"They are of course too sad that it is difficult to describe more than me. But for now, my family affairs with the police are quite a lot and I admit to being in a state of shock and experiencing depression.
"God willing, I will go (visit the family of the late Siti Nur Surya)," said Mala in a very melancholic tone.
Speaking further, Mala said, the poverty experienced by her family caused her daughter to have to refuse some offers to further her studies at a university due to financial constraints.
However, Mala explained that her daughter had never complained about the shortcomings they had faced all this time.
“Shee even reached the level where she had to defer to pay her school fees because there was no money. What can we do," said Mala.
The statement of the suspect's mother was also acknowledged by her neighbour who only wanted to be known as Beri, 52.
"She (suspect) is a rare type of girl who rarely leaves home. Sitting at home is just her habit as far as I know. I have never heard of her having any problems. I really did not expect what was happening. It's hard to believe," he added.
In this regard, Beri appealed to the public not to say anything inappropriate about the suspect and her family because it is not as described.
Even if knowing them, he said, it was difficult to believe or accept what happened had involved their neighbours.
It is due to many that he sees that the allegations were outrageous and untrue at all the things that the suspect and her family has been accused of.
On Sunday, Siti Nur Surya is believed to have been killed in Kampung Lubok Batu, Telemong, Hulu Terengganu.
The victim was found with several stab wounds, believed to have been caused by a sharp weapon, on several parts of her body, including a severed left wrist.
Police believe the arrest of the suspect who went to school with the victim from Form One to Form Five had uncovered the motive for the brutal murder.
