Continuous heavy rains in the afternoon inundated the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in Gombak today causing several cars to be submerged in the flood waters.

According to Malay news portal Harian Metro, a spokesperson from IIUM’s Corporate Communication Division said the situation returned to normal after the waters receded.

“The incident has not disrupted the university’s daily operations including the students who are now sitting for their end-of-semester examinations.

“Even though several cars were submerged in the flood waters, no casualties were reported,” he said.

Sudden heavy downpours on Wednesday had caused several nearby rivers to burst their banks causing flash floods in the area up to a metre high.

Jalan Al Jamiah in the university campus was the worst affected.
