Ikram given 6 months to finalise hazard map
The Public Works Institute (Ikram) has been given a period of six months to complete a hazard and risk map for slope areas in the capital.
Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Ahmad Phesal Talib said the map would enable a more effective monitoring of landslide risks around the Klang Valley area.
He said the map would ensure the safety of more than 3,000 hillside developments around the Klang Valley.
"We ask that Ikram conduct studies in the preparation of the risk map and the areas that need to be given priority are the areas that have already suffered from landslips and landslides,” he said.
Aside from that, the plans to install engineering equipment to curb soil movement can be made after the risk location map has been complete.
Last December, a 100 metre concrete embankment in Bukit Setiawangsa collapsed damaging two homes. Among the homes affected during the incident include that belonging to Rompin MP Datuk Jamaluddin Jarjis and Setiawangsa MP Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique.
