The depressions at KL International Airport 2 (KLIA2) will be investigated by independent consultant Ikram Premier Consulting Sdn Bhd and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the independent consultant will monitor the depressions and present him with a report.
"Its best for me and my deputy (Datuk Aziz Kaprawi) not to visit the area to avoid public claim of a cover up. This is why we appointed an independent consultant," he told reporters after visiting KLIA2, here today.
Hishammuddin said that Ikram and ICAO were appointed in April to review and recommend improvements to the safety operations and services at KLIA2.
He assured that there was no safety risk as claimed by some parties and that Malaysia Aiports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) was always prepared to address the issue.
Public Accounts Committee (PAC)chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed was quoted as saying MAHB and the Transport Ministry should solve the depressions on the runway and aircraft parking bay.
Meanwhile, the total passenger traffic handled by KLIA2 since its opening on May 2 has exceeded one million passengers.
The avarage daily passenger traffic is about 60,000 passengers.
