"I'm no longer in service" - Gani Patail declines comment on affidavit of Musa Aman case

Former Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail declined comment on the affidavit he had declared on the prosecution of corruption and money laundering against Tan Sri Musa Aman.

After several attempts to get his explanation, Abdul Gani had contacted Astro AWANI.

However, he only reacted briefly.

“I no longer serve in the department. It (the explanation) is exactly as what is stated in the affidavit,” he said before ending the call on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun had provided justification on his decision not to pursue charges of corruption and money laundering against Musa, who is also the former Chief Minister of Sabah.

In an affidavit received by the Attorney General's Chambers on June 5, Abdul Gani defended the department's decision in 2012 not to take any action against Musa.

Idrus said in the affidavit filed by Musa to dismiss the charges against him, had stated that Abdul Gani made the decision following an investigation that found the money involved was political donation.

He said Abdul Gani had stated that the decision was made collectively by top individuals, namely former Chief of the Prosecution Division, Datuk Seri Tun Abdul Majid Tun Hamzah; former MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohammad and former MACC investigation director Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali.

Earlier, the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Tuesday discharged and acquitted Musa of all 46 charges of corruption and money laundering over logging concession contracts in Sabah.

Judge Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin made the decision after being informed by Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid that the prosecution had withdrawn all charges against Musa.
