KUALA TERENGGANU: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry's (MDTCA) enforcement division in Terengganu seized imitation clothing and handbags, worth RM68,000, in raids conducted simultaneously at three locations yesterday.
Its director, Saharuddin Mohd Kia said the raids were conducted at 2 pm at two premises in Kuala Terengganu and one in Kuala Berang following a report lodged by the owners of the registered trademarks.
He said a man and a woman, both locals and in their 30s, were arrested during the raids for investigation.
"The operation was conducted following a report from the registered trademark owners who suspected their goods traded on social media are imitation ones. A total of 3,461 items, consisting of (imitation) branded clothing and handbags of various sizes were seized," he told at a press conference here today.
He advised the public to be wary of the tactics of some traders who sell imitation branded goods for high profit.
"Be careful when buying branded items, especially when making online purchases, because many people have been deceived," he said and urged those with such information to lodge their complaints at e-aduan@kpdnhep.gov.my portal, the Ez ADU KPDNHEP smartphone application or WhatsApp to 019-2794317 or 019-8488000.
